Hariharan would be the 28th recipient of the award.
The singer would receive the award at a function here next month, the selection committee said.
Hariharan had received the Padma Shri in 2004.
The Lata Mangeshkar award is given to a musician and a playback singer in the alternate year. Last year, Rajesh Roshan was named for the award.
Legendary musician Naushad was the first to receive this award in 1984-85.
