As Speaker Sumitra Mahajan asked first-time MP Niranjan Jyoti to stop her speech saying law and order was a state subject, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav accused the BJP of spreading untruths.
"The law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh has been deteriorating over the days. Murders, dacoities and rape incidents have been on the rise," Jyoti said during Zero Hour, with SP members springing to their feet protesting her remarks.
The Speaker said she had already told Jyoti, a new member, that it was a state subject she was raising.
Nishikant Dubey (BJP) wanted expeditious steps to finalise the list of people below poverty line (BPL) as a large number of people, especially tribals and the downtrodden, were faced with immense financial hardship.
Observing that Jharkhand was faced with left extremism and infiltration, he said while there was displacement and an exodus of a large number of people of these sections from the state, many of them were even forced to sell off their children due to poverty and such incidents were coming to light now.
Sunil Kumar Singh (BJP) wanted compensation for those killed in a recent police firing in Aurangabad and Chatra districts, alleging that poor and innocent people were bearing the brunt of such "excesses".
