Lawyers of all six district courts in Delhi today observed a day-long strike to protest the lodging of FIR against a group of advocates in connection with their clash with the staffs of Amity School in Saket last week.
The strike, called by the coordination committee of All District Court Bar Associations of Delhi, affected work in Saket, Patiala House, Tis Hazari, Dwarka, Karkardooma and Rohini district courts.
Advocate Rajiv Jai, chairman of the committee, said that there was a "complete strike" in all district courts here and only proxy counsel was appearing in the urgent matters.
"The matter were taken by the judicial officer and dates were given to the litigants. No adverse order was passed for non appearance of the lawyers," the advocate at Saket district court said, adding that around 100 of their members have even decided to go on hunger strike.
Saket Bar Association Vice President Arun Rathi said the FIR was lodged in a wrong manner and the police should have taken action against the school staff for misbehaving with the lawyers.
Rathi further said that the lawyers body met the DCP concerned, who assured them that action will be taken against the culprits and a fair probe conducted into the matter.
The school administration filed the case when over 50 lawyers ran amok in Amity School in Saket in south Delhi on February 22 afternoon after one of them allegedly had an altercation with a school van's driver who stopped the lawyer's bike to help children cross the road.
The lawyer had allegedly called his colleagues from the nearby Saket court complex. They forcibly entered the premises and even hit teachers and other staff, according to the staff and police. The school authority had to call police, who brought the situation under control, the police had said.
While one FIR was registered against an advocate and several people on charges of vandalising the school campus and assaulting staffers, another FIR was lodged against unknown persons on a complaint filed by Sharma and others accusing the group of assaulting them as well.
