He was inaugurating the golden jubilee celebrations of the 'Transition from the French into Indian Legal system in Puducherry' and also the 15th anniversary of formation of the Puducherry Bar Association here.
Justice Misra asked advocates not to seek adjournments as that would only delay dispensation of justice.
Chief Justice of Madras High Court Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, who laid the foundation for renovation of the old court buildings, said lawyers should never go on strike as 'courts which are temples of justice can never remain closed'.
The renovation of the old court buildings would be completed at a cost of Rs 3.75 crores, a PWD release said.
Lt Governor A.K.Singh, who unveiled golden jubilee plaque, said comman man should get affordable justice and doors of justice should be within his reach.
He made out a strong case for creation of a bench of Madras High Court in Puducherry.
Referring to steps taken to maintain law and order in the union territory, he said 'The government is very serious on the issue. We want to ensure Puducherry to be a quite and peaceful.'
Rangasamy also made a plea for establishing a high court bench here.
Laying the foundation of the Additional court complex (Phase III), handed a cheque for Rs 10 lakhs to President of Bar Association C.P.T.Ramesh as government's contribution to the Advocates Welfare Fund.
Judge of Supreme Court Justice Fakir Mohamed Ibrahim Kalifulla presided. Chief Judge of Puducherry P.Velumurugan and Chief Secretary Chetan B.Sanghi also spoke.
The transition of the legal system from the French to Indian pattern took place here in the wake of de jure merger of Puducherry and the other French establishments with Indian Union and Bar Association was formed in 1964.
