During the trial in 20-year-old Rajendra Mirdha abduction case here yesterday, the Mahanagar Additional Session Judge hearing the case, too, expressed concern over the uranium going amiss from police possession, Dudi said quoting a statement from the court proceeding.
The material can be used in making a nuclear bomb, he said adding that the ASJ has also said that an independent body should probe the matter as to how can uranium go missing from police seize.
"The state government (police department) has already submitted a letter to this effect in the court earlier, on which the judge made the observations," he said.
Stating that the matter concerned national security, Dudi said the police department's officers and employees be made accountable on this issue.
The BJP government should ensure action on this matter on priority, he demanded. Even the video cassettes of communal riots reported over two decades ago were also missing from police custody/store, he alleged.
Rajendra Mirdha, son of late Congress leader and former Union Minister late Ramniwas Mirdha, was abducted by terrorists on February 17, 1995 from Jaipur during the BJP regime run by late Bhairon Singh Shekhawat (the then CM and former Vice President of India). Mirdha was later rescued after an encounter between terrorists and police, in which one militant was killed.
