DELP programme of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of PSUs of Power Ministry, through a combination of aggregation and transparent procurement, has achieved a rapid decline in LED prices.
EESL has been able to slash LED bulb prices from Rs 310 in February last year to Rs 73 in June 2015, a reduction of over 75 per cent, a press release said.
The target of the programme is to replace all the 77 crore incandescent bulbs sold in India by LEDs. This will result in reduction of 20,000 MW load, energy savings of 100 billion KWh and Green House Gas (GHG) emissions savings of 80 million tonnes every year.
In another statement, EESL said it has launched DMRC employee programme under Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP), its flagship initiative, at Metro Bhawan.
The ceremony was inaugurated by Ajay Mathur Director General of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and DMRC Managing Director Mangu Singh, according to a statement.
Distribution centres have been set up in all DMRC colonies and depots for employees to benefit from this scheme. It has been estimated that over 8,000 DMRC employees will benefit from this innovative scheme, it said.
"Through this collaboration, we are looking at setting up LED bulbs in our stations, colonies, offices and depots. We are making every effort to ensure we are energy efficient and work towards monetary savings and significant CO2 reduction. We are sure that the DMRC employees will benefit greatly with this scheme," Singh said.
Under EESL's DELP scheme, DMRC employees can avail up to 10 LED bulbs at one third the market price and can get reduced electricity bills by about Rs 160-400 per year with each LED.
EESL has already distributed over 2.3 crore LED bulbs under the DELP scheme across the country. EESL further aims to replace 77 crore incandescent bulbs (in the residential sector) throughout the country by 2019.
A joint venture of NTPC, Power Finance Corporation, Rural Electrification Corporation and Power Grid, EESL was set up under Ministry of Power to facilitate implementation of energy efficiency projects.
