Vigilance case conviction rate rises to 48% in Odisha

Claiming that the Odisha government's efforts have yielded results, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said the rate of conviction in Vigilance cases in Odisha has reached a record 48 per cent this year.
Addressing the Vigilance Awareness Week Ceremony here, Patnaik said, "It is a matter of immense satisfaction that our pioneering efforts both in legislation and implementation have received nation-wide recognition and the governments of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Rajastan have enacted similar legislation on the line of the Odisha Special Courts Act," Patnaik said.
Stating that the real objective of having a clean and transparent mechanism requires system strengthening, Patnaik said the state government has implemented RTI Act and various other transparency measures to empower the people and build up a strong mechanism.

Besides, the state govenrment has taken several initiatives like e-payments, e-tendering, Right to Public Service Act, single window system, payment of wages and benefits through bank payments, involvement of beneficiaries in monitoring mechanism, community involvement and involvement of PRIs and an appropriate grievance redressal mechanism, the chief minister said.
Refering to the Central Vigilance Commission's theme "Preventive Vigilance as a tool of Good Governance" for the Awareness Week this year, Patnaik said that the state Vigilance as part of Preventive Vigilance has been conducting simultaneous surprise checks throughout Odisha in recent times to prevent and detect corruption in various flagship programmes.
