Left Front should remain silent for ten years: Mamata

Blaming the previous Left Front government for the state's poor fiscal condition, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said the Opposition Left in the state should remain silent for ten years.
Criticising the Opposition LF for trying to raise hue and cry against her government, Banerjee attacked them for walking out of the House shortly after she started speaking during the question hour and said "For ten years you sit applying leucoplast on your mouth. Do not utter a single word. You have committed many wrongs".
Alleging the Left Front of doing little for the state's development during its tenure, the Chief Minister said what it had left behind was "garbage" which would take 50 years to clear.

Criticising the erstwhile LF government of leaving the state in a "disastrous" financial situation, she said she wanted to clear the DA arrears of state government employees, but was unable to do so due to lack of funds.
"We have the heart and vision to do, but don't have the resources. Everyday I sit with finance minister Amit Mitra to discuss on the financial position," she said, adding "I will not let the poor starve".
Without naming the CPI(M), she said "They exist only in the media."

Alleging dismal condition of the public distribution system during the LF regime, she said since her government came to power, 77 lakh bogus ration cards have been seized.

While intervening during the questions on health and BPL in the Assembly, Banerjee accused the LF government of failure in providing proper entitlements to people living below poverty line and said there were instances of change of status from Above Poverty Line (APL) to BPL category.
She said after coming to power, she found the district health care system was in shambles and that the Trinamool Congress government was trying to establish multi-speciality hospitals in all districts across the state.
Referring to crib deaths in state-run hospitals, she said infant mortality rate in West Bengal had come down since her government came to power.

The Chief Minister said her government was trying to take steps so that medical aid was provided to women from the beginning of their pregnancies.
Earlier, opposition Left Front legislators walked out five minutes after Banerjee entered the House, alleging they were not being allowed to ask questions.
