Left parties today came out in support of AAP government over the Centre's notification specifying Lieutenant Governor's jurisdiction, insisting that the Centre should resolve the issue through "co-operative federalism" instead of "coercive centralisation".

The CPI(M) said it supports "full statehood for Delhi" demand and that the current situation underlines urgency for this.

CPI(M) politburo member Brinda Karat said," CPI(M) supports full statehood for Delhi. The present situation underlines urgency for this. Even within the present framework, the Centre and its representative should resolve the issues through co-operative federalism instead of present approach of coercive centralisation."

CPI Deputy General Secretary Gurudas Dasgupta termed the move as "wrong".

"This is not right. It is wrong. It is against the Constitution. We support the state government," Dasgupta said.

In the gazette notification issued today, the Centre backed Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung making it clear that it was not mandatory for him to consult Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on matters like appointment of bureaucrats.
