Less number of students opting for sculpture in TN:Jaya

Technology and computer era have taken a toll in the number of students opting for sculpture courses in the state, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said today.
The government was not against sculpture,Jayalalithaa said intervening during question hour in the assembly when Education Minister Vaigai Chelvan was replying to K Thangavel (CPI-M) who wanted government to open a sculpture college near Tiruppur.
The minister it was not possible, since the sculpture college at Mamallapuram was running with less number of students. Government was trying to work out ways with AICTE to get more quality students for sculpture,he said.
When Thangavel insisted on a new college, Jayalalithaa said "The government is not against sculpture.In this computer era and technology, we get only less number of students for sculpture. If the member can assure good number of students, the government is ready to open a college."
Tamil Nadu government runs two fine arts colleges in Chennai and Kumbakonam and an Architecture and Sculpture College at Mamallapuram.
