Chinese authorities have seized 280 containers of lethal bacteria in the south-eastern part of the country.
A total of 280 containers filled with Listeria monocytogenes, a food borne pathogenic bacterium that could lead to death, were discovered on a passenger intending to enter Shenzhen of Guangdong Province last week, according to customs staff.
The passenger said he was unaware of what was in the bottles and that he was entrusted by another person to take the bottles in.
The case has been transferred to local quarantine authorities, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
