Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung today wrote to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia asking them to resolve the issues related with the ongoing strike by municipal corporations' employees and find some way to help them.
The LG's letters to both Kejriwal and Sisodia comes after he met a group of sanitation workers of the BJP-led municipal corporations demanding the release of their long-pending dues.
Sources said that in his letters, the Lt Governor has asked the government to resolve the crisis caused by the strike of the municipal corporations' employees and help them regarding their demands.
This is the first time that the LG has written to Delhi government on the issue asking for its resolution.
Earlier in the day, the Delhi Cabinet passed a resolution requesting Jung to direct the Delhi Development Authority to pay Rs 1,575 crore dues to the MCDs to help them pay salaries to their employees.
As the strike badly hit various services, the Lt Governor today met a delegation of striking employees and requested them to withdraw the agitation.
"We met the Lt Governor and apprised him of our demands. We requested him that Rs 5,000 crore is needed to clear the dues to the employees," said Sanjay Gehlot, president of Swatantra Mazdoor Vikas Sanyukt Morcha.
