While five deaths were reported from Khurda district, four died in Balasore, three in Jajpur district and one each in Cuttack and Nayagarh districts.
Four died at Tangi and one at Haja in Khurda district. Five persons were also injured in the lightning incidents.
Three women were killed after being struck by lightning while working in a field at Kainagari village in Balasore district. Lightning claimed another victim as it killed a man at Uluda village in nearby Bhogarai area, the sources said.
A report from Jajpur said lightning left three dead and five injured, two of them seriously, in three separate incidents in Sukinda and Danagadi areas of the district. Five others sustained burn injuries.
Similarly, one person died in Khajuripada in Cuttack district, while another was killed in Gochabari area of Nayagarh district, the sources said.
