Sonu, who also works part-time at a petrol pump, was shot last night, but his girlfriend, who was sitting behind him on the two-wheeler, escaped unhurt, police said.
The youth has been admitted to hospital and the girl was handed over to her family, they said.
No complaint has been lodged so far in connection with the incident, they said.
Police investigations have revealed that the assailants had some rivalry with the youth, they said, adding that the matter would be clear once he regained consciousness.
