Locals held protests and burnt effigies of Tikait at several places like Shahpur, Budhana, Sarvate, Shamli, etc.
The remarks attributed to Tikait were purportedly made a few days back at a panchayat at Dulhera village.
Police said that security has been tightened and extra personnel deployed in the Shahpur area of the district.
The SP (rural) told reporters here today that nobody would be allowed to create tension in the area and added that all precautionary measures are being taken to check any disruption in the law and order situation.
