Lok Sabha would hold its sittings till September six during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament to make up for time lost due to disruptions.
A proposal of the government to this effect, moved by Speaker Meira Kumar, received the approval of the House today.
The session, which began on August five, was scheduled to end on August 30.
The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs had yesterday decided to extend the session till September six to make up for time lost due to disruptions and pass key Bills on economic reform measures and land acquisition.
The decision came as virtually no business was transacted in the House till August 24 due to disruption and adjournments caused primarily due to protests over the decision to create Telangana by TDP and Congress members from Andhra Pradesh.
While the key Food Security Bill was passed yesterday, Government is hopeful of getting Parliament's nod to Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Bill, 2011, Land Acquisition Bill and other legislations.
The UPA dispensation is hopeful of convincing main opposition BJP on the Insurance Bill. The crucial legislations include those on Judicial Appointments Commission, Civil Aviation Authority and Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University in Rae Bareli.
