Lord Jagannath's "Brahma Parivartan" on June 15

The secret ritual of "Brahma Paribartan" (Changing the soul) of Lord Jagannath's present idol will take place on June 15, the Sankranti Day.
During the Brahma Paribartan, the old Pati Mohapatra priest of the temple shifts the Brahma from old idol to the new ones.
After Brahma Paribartan, the new idols get lives and are adorned with "Pata Bastra" and gold ornaments known as "Saptabharan or Banaklagi, said Rabindra Narayan Mishra, a scholar in Jagannath Cult.
The day of "Brahma Paribartan" was decided at the Managing Committee meeting of Sri Jagannath Temple held under the chairmanship of Puri King Dibyasingha Deb.
Chief administrator of Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, religious heads and priests, also attended the meeting here.
'Brahma Paribartan' is the most important ritual of Nabakalebara Festival which is being held after a gap of 19 years. "Brahma Paribartan of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Sudarshan will be held in the mid night of June 15," an official of SJTA said after the meeting.
The old idols of the Lords will be buried inside the "Koeli Baikuntha" within the temple premises on the night of same June 15.
The 'Naba Jaubana Darshan' (Juvenile youth of the Lords) for the devotees will be on July 17. The world-famous Ratha Yatra will be organised on July 18.
Meanwhile, a budget of Rs 239 crore for the temple for 2015-16 was presented in the meeting.
