Last month, Karra, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had announced his decision to quit the ruling party in Jammu and Kashmir and his Lok Sabha seat as well.
"Tariq Hameed Karra, an elected member of Lok Sabha from Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency of Jammu and Kashmir has resigned his seat in Lok Sabha and his resignation has been accepted by the Speaker with effect from 17 October, 2016," according to a Lok Sabha bulletin.
Karra had alleged that the central and state governments policies of "unabated genocide", continued denial of the dangerous ground realities, insensitive and ad hoc approach towards Kashmir issue led to his resignation.
