LWE claimed maximum lives in Chhattisgarh this year: Govt

A maximum of 58 people were killed this year in violence perpetrated by Naxalite cadres in the state of Chhattisgarh, government told Parliament today.
The central Indian state also accounted for the maximum number of incidents of Left Wing Extremism (LWE) violence at 256 till June this year.
Chhattisgarh was followed in these incidents by Jharkhand where 32 people were killed in 177 LWE related violence incidents during the same period.
Maharashtra and Odisha accounted for eight deaths in 27 and 41 incidents respectively during the same time.
A total of 118 people were killed in 583 Naxal violence incidents across the ten LWE affected states in the country during the same time period, Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary said in his written reply to Rajya Sabha.
The Minister also said "85 per cent" of such violence is being carried out in LWE areas by the CPI (Maoist) outfit of the ultras.
"The other active groups are Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Commmitee (TSPC), Peoples's Liberation Front of India (PLFI), Jharkhand Sangharsh Jan Mukti Morcha (JSJMM) and Revolutionary Communist Centre (RCC)," he said.
In a separate reply, Chaudhary said a total of 12,331 civilians have bene killed in LWE violence incidents across the country since 1980.
"908 and 1,005 deaths of civilians and security forces took place in 2,258 and 2,213 Naxal incidents in 2009 and 2010, respectively which were the largest since 1980," he said.
