Government appointed him as the head of HPCL on retirement of Nishi Vasudeva on March 31, a company press statement said here.
Prior to this appointment, Surana was Chief Executive Officer of Prize Petroleum Company Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary and upstream arm of HPCL, since September 2012.
Surana is a mechanical engineer, with a Master's degree in Financial Management.
"He has a wide exposure in the Oil and Gas Industry spanning over 33 years, handling various responsibilities including business leadership positions. He has been closely involved in strategy formulation, business process re-engineering, major projects implementation, refinery operations, corporation wide ERP implementation and acquisition & management of upstream assets," the statement added.
