'Mad Men' creator Matthew Weiner says it saddens him that none of the actors on his hit drama have been rewarded for their work by the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences.
The 1960s-set programme has been critically acclaimed since its debut in 2007, earning nominations in multiple awards, but none of their wins have ever included Emmys for any of the actors, reported Contactmusic.
Prior to receiving the Founders Award from the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences last week (24Nov14), Weiner expressed his disappointment in the American Academy during a question and answer session.
"One of my great frustrations is that they haven't been recognised more. None of these actors has ever won an Emmy and they are the gold standard. I still feel like their contribution has been unrecognised," he said.
While Weiner himself has won three trophies for the show, plus four consecutive Outstanding Drama Series prizes, Mad Men's stars including John Slattery, Christina Hendricks, Robert Morse, and Elisabeth Moss have all lost out on acting accolades.
The show's leading actor, Jon Hamm, has been up for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series each of the seven years the show has been on the air, but has lost every time.
