A magisterial enquiry began here here today into the death of a history sheeter in a police 'encounter', an official said.
A day after the history sheeter was gunned down here, Metropolitan Magistrate P Sandilyan inspected the scene of the encounter at the Taramani area.
The magistrate inquired into the circumstances leading to the encounter and looked into aspects like whether the action was proportionate to the situation, a senior police official told PTI.
Anandan was killed when police opened fire at him after after he attacked a Sub Inspector, City Police Commissioner A K Viswanathan had said.
The man was wanted in connection with the recent attack on a constable.
When a special team went to nab him based on information, he attacked them yesterday with a sharp-edged weapon. Subsequently, police opened fire after issuing warnings.
Anandan was taken to a government hospital where he was declared brought dead.
