The Left party also claimed a section in the state government was afraid that it will be in trouble if Pansare's killers were traced and hence, there was a delay in probe into the February 16 killing of its leader.
The party also accused the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena combine in the state of lacking will power to trace perpetrators of the two episodes.
"The Chief Minister himself is a Home Minister. Keeping in mind the failure to trace killers in both the incidents, he should decide on whether he should keep home portfolio with himself," CPI state secretary Bhalchandra Kango told PTI.
Dabholkar was gunned down on early morning of August 20 last year.
In a similar pattern, Pansare was shot at and critically wounded by unidentified assailants outside his housing society after returning from a morning walk on February 16.
