Maha Cong workers protest against Modi govt's 1-year rule

Congress workers held demonstrations across Maharashtra to protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government, which completed one year in office today.

Describing the one-year of Modi government as "death anniversary of acche din," Congress activists held protests in different parts of the state.

They targetted the Central government for allegedly failing to fulfil its pre-poll promises like checking price rise, bringing back blackmoney stashed abroad, taking tough stand against Pakistan, employment generation, transparency in governance among other things.

In Mumbai, Congress workers marched from Girgaum Chowpatty to Azad Maidan breaking police cordon as the protest march did not have police permission.

Party leader Charansingh Sapra said the morcha was not meant to disrupt public life, create traffic hurdles or harm law and order.

"Hence we decided to go ahead with our protest despite denial of permission," Sapra said.

Congress' city unit chief Sanjay Nirupam, former MPs Milind Deora and Eknath Gaikwad were among the prominent leaders who walked from Girgaum to Azad Maidan here.

Protests were also held in Kalyan, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune.
