Maha govt has failed on all fronts: Chavan

Alleging that there were cracks between ruling alliance partners in Maharashtra, state Congress chief Ashok Chavan today said the BJP-led state government, which completed six months in office, was a failure on all fronts.
"I agree with NCP president Sharad Pawar's statement that the state government can run into instability on the eve of the Mumbai Civic Polls. There are so many cracks among the allies that it cannot last long. There is turmoil in pre-primary admission process, in Maratha reservation... There is no relief on farmers' suicides," Chavan told reporters here.
"The common man is unhappy and we do not know for whom the government is working... It has failed on all fronts," he added.

When asked about Pawar being open to the idea of joining hands with Congress on the lines of Janata Parivar to take on the BJP-Sena while retaining its own identity, Chavan said there should be consistency in the stand one takes.
"There is a necessity for continuous dialogue. It should be clear who is with whom. Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi himself has said he takes advice from Pawar. Pawar is a senior leader and our President Sonia Gandhi will take a call regarding any such proposal," he said.
The former Chief Minister said his endeavour is now to focus on organisational rebuilding and he has decided to appoint observers for each assembly constituency rather than for a district.

"These observers will be entrusted with the task of direct contact with local party workers and voters and also to keep track of the developmental and political issues in each constituency," he said.

According to him, the view in the party is that pre-poll alliances should be avoided.
"Pre-poll tie-ups should be selective depending on the views of the local party workers and post-poll alliances should be depending on the political situations if favourable for the party," he said.
In districts like Jalgaon, Beed and Thane, where the party has been reduced to a negligent position, the state unit will step up party activities and adopt an effective strategy to reach out to the people and galvanise the party workers.

Chavan said he also plans to tour the state extensively.
