Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today said the state plans to regularise most of the illegal constructions in urban areas of the state.
Replying to a debate raised through a Calling Attention notice in the Legislative Assembly, Fadnavis said the government had accepted in principle a report submitted by a committee headed by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner on encroachments in the state.
"The report has said that 70 to 75 per cent illegal construction in Pimpri-Chinchwad (city area under Pune Metropolitan Region) can be regularised. Similarly, most illegal constructions in the state can be regularised," he said.
The report would be placed before the Cabinet and a final decision would be taken soon, he said.
A request would be made in the High Court that the government has accepted the report which says 70 to 75 per cent illegal structures can be regularised and hence, demolitions taking place on court orders be stayed.
The High Court had ordered demolition of 66,324 illegal constructions in Pimpri-Chinchwad city area, Fadnavis said.
