Replying to a debate in the Lower House raised through a calling attention notice, Mehta said state social security board will be set up for the welfare of unorganised sector.
"The board will be set up before the commencement of the winter session of the state legislature," he added.
"We will undertake a campaign from August 9 for six months, in which over seven lakh labourers, including construction and domestic workers, in the unorganised sector will be registered. We will also consider including farm labourers as well," he said.
"Due to government's apathy, only two lakh workers have been registered. An amount of Rs 3,500 crore is available with the government through various cess meant for welfare of labourers. But the labourers are not registered and have to remain out of benefits meant for them," Wadettiwar said.
