Maha to bring anti-superstition Bill afresh in monsoon session

A bill seeking to check unfair practices like black magic and cheating at the hands of self-styled godmen and tantriks, will be brought afresh in the monsoon session of Maharashtra legislature beginning next month.
A decision to bring the long-pending anti-superstition bill, which is facing opposition from certain groups, was taken by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of Maharashtra legislature at a meeting at the Vidhan Bhawan here.
"We will bring the anti-superstition bill afresh in the monsoon session of the legislature," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshavardhan Patil said today.
The three-week session of the legislature will begin from July 15, he said.

The proposed law was opposed by Shiv Sena and right-wing groups when it was introduced for the first time in 2008.
Eight new Bills will be introduced during the session, Patil said.
