Maharashtra Govt has no respect for Tilak, says BJP

BJP today accused the Congress-NCP led Maharashtra government of having no respect for Lokmanya Tilak, pointing out that the name of the nationalist leader was missing from the list of persons whose portraits are to be put up in the government offices.
"Tilak's name is missing from the state government's list of 28 national leaders whose portraits are to be put up in government offices," state BJP spokesperson Madhav Bhandari said here.
"Not only Tilak, the state government has also dropped names of Netaji Subhashchandra Bose and social reformer Savitribai Phule from the list," Bhandari said.
The BJP leader said the state government had also ignored a proposal by the Lokmanya Tilak Swarajya Bhumi Smarak Samiti to allow the national flag to be unfurled at Tilak's memorial in south Mumbai.

The state government's Maharashtra Sadan building in New Delhi also does not have any statue or portrait of Tilak, Bhandari said, adding that no function was held there today to mark Tilak's death anniversary.
