A 45-year-old maid was allegedly bludgeoned to death while the baby she looked after was also injured by unidentified assailants at her employer's house in West Delhi's Uttam Nagar area last night, police said today.
The deceased has been identified as Inderjeet Singh, who had been working at house no. B-21, Rama Park, residence of one Arvinder Singh (32) and his wife Amarpreet (27) since the last several years. Singh worked at a private bank in Gurgaon while Amarpreet is also a working woman.
The incident came to light last evening around 7:45 PM when the couple returned home only to find the door of the house open.
"To their horror, the entire house was ransacked and Inderjeet Singh was found in the bedroom lying in a pool of blood while their two-year-old son was lying unconscious nearby.
"The couple rushed both the victims to the nearby Mata Chanan Devi hospital in Janakpuri where the nanny was pronounced brought dead while their son was admitted. His condition was said to be stable," said a police official.
According to DCP (West) Ranveer Singh, a case has been registered under relevant provisions of IPC including robbery and murder at Uttam Nagar police station and investigation has been initiated.
Initial probe has revealed that the assailants had a friendly entry into the house in the afternoon but they had a fight with the deceased after which they killed her and then robbed the house.
Singh said that the amount of robbed articles would be established after the couple assesses it.
Investigating sleuths have picked up forensic evidence from the house and have questioned the employers as well as their neighbours. Further investigations are underway.
