As many as 17 Left parties including Left Front took part in the rally which was taken out from Y-Channel at Esplanade to College Square in central Kolkata.
However, the Congress was not invited to join in the rally.
CPI(M) state secretary Surjyakanta Mishra, Left Front Chairman Biman Bose, CPI(M) Legislative party leader Sujan Chakrabarty and other Left leaders were present at the rally.
The leaders also voiced their displeasure over the rising tariff of electricity. As the rally registered a huge turnout, traffic came to a standstill at several roads.
Addressing the workers at the conclusion of the rally, Left Front Chairman Biman Bose said that there would be movements at different districts in order to build a united voice against the 'anti-people policies' of the Narendra Modi government on July 17.
