Male nurse gets jail term for molesting woman patient

A Delhi court has sentenced a male nurse of a government hospital to one-year imprisonment for molesting a patient, observing it is a serious problem if women are not safe while being medically treated even from the hospital staff.
Metropolitan Magistrate Ekta Gauba awarded the jail term to 32-year-old Brij Bihari Rathore, who was working as a nurse at Guru Gobind Singh Hospital in Raghubir Nagar here, for molesting a woman patient by indecently touching her while treating her.
The court noted that after this incident, Rathore started making calls on the woman's mobile number asking her to meet him.

"... In view of the fact that offence against women are on increase in the city and it is a well known fact that it is a serious public order problem if women patients are not safe at that time when they are being medically treated even from the para medical staff in the government hospital as the convict was a male staff nurse and he has misbehaved with the patient/victim while performing his duty as a male staff nurse and in view of the facts and circumstances, convict Rathore does not deserve to be released on probation," the court said.

The court imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on Rathore, a resident of staff quarters in the hospital complex, and also directed him to pay Rs 9,000 compensation to the victim.
According to the prosecution, the woman, along with her mother and brother-in-law, had gone to the casualty section of Guru Gobind Singh Hospital on the morning of March 17, 2008, and she met Rathore there.
Rathore gave her an injection and told her mother to bring a glass of water and in her (mother) absence, he wrote his name and phone number on a slip and gave it to the woman patient, it said.

While giving her injection, Rathore indecently touched her but she did not disclose it to her mother and returned home, police said.
