Speaking in the Assembly, Banerjee accused the Left parties of passing off killings arising out of family feuds and property disputes as political killings.
"In Bengal law and order is peaceful and there is communal amity prevailing in the state," she said.
Replying to the debate on budgetary demands for grants for the home department held by her, the chief minister took a dig at Left parties saying that they had no patience to listen to her and walked out in the middle of her speech as they did not believe in democracy despite being rejected by the people in elections one after another.
Citing statistics, Banerjee said there were 106 deaths in political violence in 2009, 1018 in 2010 and 71 till May in 2011 when TMC came to power ousting the Left Front.
Claiming that the number of deaths in political violence declined after the TMC government came to power, she said that there were 48 deaths in 2013 with 21 belonging to TMC, 18 to CPI(M), five to Congress.
Earlier, the Leader of the Opposition, Surya Kanta Mishra belonging to CPI(M) alleged that 157 Left Front cadres were killed in the past three years since the TMC came to power and urged her to halt post-poll attacks on Left supporters.
