On 'Nandigram Divas' today, she charged the CPI(M) with unleashing 'barbaric attacks' on the people of Nandigram in East Midnapore district in 2007.
"Today is Nandigram Divas. The memories of the barbaric attacks unleashed by the CPI(M) in Nandigram are still fresh in my mind," Banerjee wrote on her Twitter handle.
Since 2012, the Trinamool Congress observes the day as "Nandigram Divas" every year.
"Today I remember those martyrs of Nandigram, Singur, Netai, Nanur, Keshpur and those who became victims of the violent politics of the CPI(M)," she tweeted.
Later that year, the then Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee sent 2,500 policemen to "recapture" Nandigram to acquire farmland for a petrochemical hub.
As per official records, 14 farmers had died in the firing, but over 100 were declared "missing".
The Trinamool Congress also observes March 14, which witnessed the killing of 14 farmers at Nandigram, as 'Krishak Divas' each year.
The farmer-unrest in Nandigram followed by another one at Singur in Hooghly district that helped Banerjee topple the 34-year-old Left Front rule in the state.
