West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said she had given her consent to the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) with Bangladesh during her discussion on the issue with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
"The Bill on the proposed LBA is likely to be moved in Parliament on May 5. I have already cleared it, but with some conditions," Banerjee told reporters at the state secretariat Nabanna.
Speaking about her conditions, Banerjee said she had demanded a "comprehensive package" for rehabilitation of those who would come to the Indian side and settle here following exchange of enclaves between the two countries.
"Following exchange of enclaves between the two countries, 17,000 acres of land will come to our side and 7,000 acres of land will go to Bangladesh. But, nearly 60,000 people will come to our side for settlement. I have asked for a comprehensive package for their rehabilitation and have already sent a proposal in this regard to the Centre," she said.
Swaraj spoke to Banerjee over phone recently, during which the External Affairs Minister discussed the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) issue with the Chief Minister.
