West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today urged the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) not to release more than 50,000 cusecs of water as it might create a flood-like situation in the state.
Whenever there was heavy rain in Jharkhand, DVC released water and West Bengal got flooded. Repeated pleading with them to store more water by dredging new reservoir also fell on deaf ears, she said.
"They are more into publicity than work. Today also they will release 50,000 cusecs. If they release 70,000 cusecs then it becomes flood. It then becomes man-made flood. So we have told them not to release more than 50,000 cusesc. We are keeping a close watch," Banerjee told reporters after an administrative meeting in the South 24-Parganas district.
Last month due to heavy rains, flood-like situation had appeared in the state which took the lives of at least four persons and left around 58,000 people affected.
