Punjab resident Jaswinder Singh, who claims to be a priest in a Gurdwara there, was released on bail by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav.

Singh, 31, was arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police from Anandpur Sahib in Punjab on December 22, last year, along with his associate Sarabpreet, on a tip off that the duo had procured a cache of arms and ammunition in pursuance of their plans to eliminate Ram Rahim.

The arms, including two pistols of .30 bore with magazines and 30 live cartridges, besides, fake currency notes, were also recovered from their possession, police had alleged.

The duo were booked under the stringent provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Arms Act and various sections of Indian Penal Code.

However, in June this year, the Delhi government had refused to grant sanction for their prosecution under UAPA on the ground of unsatisfactory evidence, following which Jaswinder moved a bail application.

"Considering the fact that appropriate government has found the provisions of UAPA being not made out against him and further the fact that this accused has been in judicial custody for almost six months, I deem it a fit case for grant of bail," the CMM said in his order. (More)
