Delhi police's crime branch has arerested a 32-year-old man in a year-old murder case in Prashant Vihar of outer Delhi.
The accused, identified as Radha Raman, a native of Aligarh in UP, had allegedly killed the elderly mother of his employer for robbery in January last year and was evading arrest since then.
A cash reward of R 50,000 was announced on his arrest by Delhi police chief B S Bassi.
Raman was also wanted in a car theft case reported at a police station in Gurgaon. He had robbed the car owner of his Wagon R and Rs 50,000 cash.
Raman was arrested on March 16 by a team led by DCP Bhishm Singh and ACP KPS Malhotra following information about his movement in Delhi.
During interrogation Raman confessed to the crime.
"The accused was hired as a driver by his employer. On January 29, last year, the accused murdered the mother of his employer when her daughter and son-in-law left home for office.
"The daughter-in law returned home to find the mother dead and all cash and jewellery missing. On the same day, the deceased's son-in-law Shailesh Sinha was found lying unconscious in his car that was parked near a shopping mall in Rohini. It was learnt that their driver Raman had drugged him," said a senior police official.
Before that the complainant (daughter) had repeatedly called her husband as she was supposed to receive a text message regarding money deposited in her bank account but when she called Raman attended Sinha's mobile phone and informed that her husband (his employer) was with friends.
The complainant had asked Raman to pick her up from the school but he didn't turn up and her husband's phone had gone switched off.
She then informed the local police and a case was registered, the officer said.
Police have now arrested Raman who during the interrogation revealed that he came to Delhi in 1999 to earn his livelihood and became a cab driver.
However, he was quite unsatisfied with his earnings. To lead a lavish life style he along with his associate Rajesh started committing petty thefts.
"Raman also worked as driver for the victim's family and he got to know that the family had recently sold some property. He thus planned to commit a robbery at his employer's house and killed the mother," the officer said.
