Man arrested for trying to rob cash van

A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly trying to rob a cash van in Central Delhi's Patel Nagar area, police said Thursday.

Jatin Verma, a resident of Sector 5, Rohini, began involved in criminal activities after his plans to become a top wrestler did not materialise, they said.

"On October 15, police received a call regarding an attempted robbery of a cash van at the West Patel Nagar area," said Mandeep S Randhawa, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central).

Sita Ram, the driver of the cash van, told police that he, along with two armed security guards, had left to refill ATMs of various banks at Patel Nagar and Baljeet Nagar areas, when three men held him at gun point and tried to loot the cash, he said.

Only one guard was with the driver at that time as the other was busy refilling an ATM of a bank, Randhawa added.

The accused persons tried take away the van but failed to do so, the DCP said.

Police took the help of CCTV footage and nabbed Verma from Rohini's Sector 5 on Saturday, he said.

He was earlier arrested in a robbery case in the Pahar Ganj area in July, Randhawa added.
