Mohd Qayum, a resident of Gokalpuri, was apprehended from near Delite Cinema yesterday after a tip-off, said Ravindra Yadav, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch).
During his search, 500 grams of fine quality heroin was recovered from his possession, the police officer claimed.
He was working as a loader at New Delhi Railway Station where he met one Hamid of Bihar who allegedly lured him into drug peddling.
"Due to the poor financial condition of his family, he got involved in drug trafficking. Efforts are being made to trace Hamid," he said.
