Man attacked by group of assailants

A man here sustained stomach injuries after a group of unidentified persons allegedly shot at him, police said today.
The incident took place late last night when Hardip Singh Thakur returned at his residence in city's Pratapganj area and while entering the apartment, a group of 8-10 unidentified persons came in a car and picked up a quarrel with Thakur, joint police commissioner, D J Patel said.
Suddenly, one of them shot at Thakur in his stomach, following which he somehow moved up to the fourth floor, Patel said, adding that Thakur lived on the first floor and the miscreants must be knowing about it as they fired at the door of his house on the first floor.

Soon the watchman blew whistle and the attackers managed to flee from the spot, he added.
Meanwhile, Thakur was admitted at a nearby hospital and is stated to be stable.
A case has been registered in this regard under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) and the reason behind the assault is yet to be ascertained, police said.
No arrest has been made so far and further investigation was on, Patel added.
