A 45-year-old man allegedly attempted suicide here, with the police saying that he was upset over caste-based protests and also had some tensions going within his family.
Raghuveer Gupta, a chemist shop owner in city's Vaishali Nagar area, sprinkled petrol on his body and set himself afire, DCP (west) Ashok Gupta said.
There were tensions within his family and was also upset over caste based divide and protests, he said.
The DCP said that the victim was admitted to SMS Hospital with 80 per cent burn injuries from where his family members took him to New Delhi for treatment.
The man is said to be a worker of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the matter is still under investigation.
