Man brands minor granddaughter with hot iron rod in Odisha

A 4-year-old girl was branded with hot iron rod by her grandfather for not obeying his order in Padmapur village of Odisha's Jajpur district.
Dillip Bindhani (50) had asked the girl to do something but he did not get any reply from her. In a fit of rage, he allegedly branded her with a hot iron rod on her right cheek and neck, police said today.
The accused then confined the child, his daughter's daughter, to a room for three days to hide the incident from others, police said.
The neighbours on noticing the burns yesterday, admitted the minor to a hospital and informed the police.

Bindhani was arrested last night and the iron rod seized by police. It was learnt that the girl was branded on Monday.
The girl's parents were divorced and she was staying with her grandfather.
He was charged under sections 341 (wrongful restraint) and 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of IPC, police said, adding he has confessed to the crime.
Once the girl recovers, she will be handed over to the district child protection committee.
