Police said Chandan Das (32) was picked last night as he was suspecting to be involved in a theft and he committed suicide in the Town police station lock-up.
The deceased's mother Mona Das, however, lodged an FIR alleging that her son was killed by policemen and there were clear injury marks on his body.
Tension mounted in the area as his relatives refused to cremate the body till action is taken against the erring policemen, Additional Superintendent of Police Gobind Chandra Mallick announced that ASIs Umesh Nayak and Bikram Lenka, and lady constable Dipti Barik, has been suspended.
