The man, identified as Sachin, allegedly slipped into deep waters in Yamuna in front of Hansarani Ghat here, City Magistrate Ram Araj Yadav said.
The body could be fished out after strenuous efforts of over two hours, Yadav added.
A number of devotees turned up at the ghats to take a dip in the river water, considered holy by the Hindus.
The bathing, which started in the morning, continued till late in the evening, the magistrate said.
Several ghats were thrown open for the public in view of the rush, even as the maximum traffic was witnessed at Vishram Ghat, he said.
