A 21-year-old engineering student today sustained injuries when he fell on the tracks at a metro station here with authorities unable to ascertain if it was accidental or the youth attempted suicide.
Officials said the incident was reported around 2:40 PM from the AIIMS station where the man, identified as Punit, allegedly jumped on the tracks in front of a train going from Jahangirpuri to Huda City Centre.
Punit is a third-year Btech student of Amity University and resides with his family at Sheikh Sarai.
"Punit sustained injuries on his forehead. He has been rushed to hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment. The Metro operations were affected for sometime," said a senior officer.
Police said the reason for the incident couldn't be ascertained as Punit is not in a position to record his statement.
However, they haven't ruled out the possibility of him trying to kill himself.
"He might have fallen accidentally or might have tried to jump in front of the train. We will gain more clarity when Punit recovers," the officer added.
