The fast track court-IV judge Ambarish Kumar Tiwari passed the order sentencing Aslam Ansari and his father Shafiq Ansari to life and fined them Rs 5000 each after finding them guilty of murdering Aslam's wife Mehrunnisa.
The judge also convicted the two to two years imprisonment under section 498 of the IPC (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) that will run concurrently to the life imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, Aslam and his father had burnt Mehrunnisa to death in Hariharganj village under Nasriganj police station area on May 2, 1996 after her family had failed to meet their dowry demands.
Her father Qitabuddin Ansari had lodged an FIR against his son in-law Aslam and his father charging him with the murder of his daughter.
