The deceased identified as Fayaz Ali had apparently died under mysterious circumstances, an officer said.
"It seems to be a murder case as the body bears several head injuries," Station House Officer RS Pura Police station Abid Rafiqi said.
He said that a case of murder has been registered and investigations are underway.
"After conducting the post-mortem we have handed over the body to the family for last rites," he said.
Meanwhile, village residents took to streets and protested against the administration demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
