Man gets 10-yr jail for possessing 40 kg drugs

A man has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for possessing 40 kg of Ganja by a Delhi court, which also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on him.
The court awarded the jail term to 32-year-old Delhi resident Aminullah keeping in view the quantity of recovered the drug and its impact on the young generation.
"Keeping in view the quantity of ganja recovered from his possession and its impact on our young generation and also the minimum sentence provided by the legislature, Aminullah is hereby sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 10 years and to pay a fine of Rs one lakh," Special NDPS Judge Narinder Kumar said.
The man was convicted under the provision of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for possessing commercial quantity of the contraband drug.
According to prosecution, on August 22, 2015, Aminatullah was found possessing 40 kgs of Ganja near Yamuna Bazar in Central Delhi and was caught by the raiding team of police. He was nabbed on the basis of an information received by the police.
Police said the man was carrying two plastic bags each having 20 kgs drugs.
During the trial, the man denied the incriminating evidence against him and claimed to be implicated in the case.
The court, however, said he has failed to show why he would be falsely implicated in this case.
