A local court has sentenced a 28-year-old man to 15 years of imprisonment for raping a 12-year-old girl in Pakur district two years ago.
District and Additional Sessions Judge Ramesh Kumar Srivastav convicted Gulab Sheikh under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code on Friday, Public Prosecutor Sivendra Kumar Singh said on Saturday.
The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Sheikh. If the convict fails to pay the penalty, he has to spend an additional six months in jail, he said.
According to the FIR, the girl was raped by Sheikh, her neighbour, when she was alone at home on July 29, 2017.
The FIR was registered on a complaint by the girl's mother at the Muffasil police station.
